The Discrimination Or Prejudicial Treatment Against...

Heterosexism, the discrimination or prejudicial treatment against homosexual believing that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation. LGBT(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual) community has suffered from heterosexism for many decades. This is growing rapidly around the country. Homosexuals have been excluded from jobs, denied benefits, discriminated at school, discriminated within their religion, not being accepted in their town or country and in public places in general. As evidence suggests the LGBT community suffers from many problems ranging from mental health to suicidal thoughts and laws that are for them but also against them. The six sources I examined on this topic enhanced each other on several aspects. The first way they collaborated with each other was the causes and effect of being discriminated in the LGBT community, and the effects it has on their mental and physical health. Paul Berrin and Meagan Sutter (2015) complied an article â€Å"Discrimination, Mental Health, and Suicidal Ideation among LGBT People of Color†. This study illuminates the effects of discrimination mentally and physically on individuals who are homosexuals and of different ethnicities. The results correlated to the concept that discrimination on the LGBT community â€Å"has consistently [been] a major stressor with adverse psychological effects† (Berrin Sutter, p.1). This is a shame because Berrin and Sutter (2015) point that the majority of the LGBT community that comes out experience
